Choreographer Mor Shani and the Dutch Dance Festival / Act Your Age are looking for two gay male performers aged 45 and older for the creation of a new work.

The performance

The new performance that Mor Shani will make is part of the European dance project Act Your Age, initiated by the Dutch Dance Festival (the Netherlands), Centro per la Scena Contemporanea (Italy) and Dance House Lemesos (Cyprus). Act Your Age stimulates the European community to engage with the aging body through the art of dance.

Mor Shani (Israel, 1985) is a freelance choreographer based in the Netherlands, who has presented his work across Europe and has won several international awards. His male duet Lu Carmella was nominated for the Dutch VSCD Zwaan award for the most impressive dance production of 2009. This duet, which Shani created and danced together with Ron Amit, deals with the thin line between naïve and erotic love and tries to confront basic questions about human motivations when meeting significant others. Since 2010, Mor Shani has been a resident choreographer with Dansateliers Rotterdam. In this context he created the piece Flatland, which was selected by the European Aerowaves network as one of the best creations by a young maker. Nowadays, Mor Shani also works in collaboration with ICK Amsterdam as an artist in residence.

The new work that Mor Shani will make for Act Your Age is part of the study that he is doing in response to his piece Love-ism. The core idea of this study is to investigate the personal experience when someone’s love life and relationship is challenged. Questions that are central are: when are care, mutuality and codependency in a gay relationship no longer sacred but sinful? And what distinguishes one form of love from the other? Mor Shani thereby questions whether we are able to love the pathetic and how explicit and without borders we can express ourselves in terms of love. In this study Shani tests the flexibility of what is generally accepted, thus shining new light on that which is condemned in love.

For his new performing arts project Mor Shani is looking for two gay male performers aged 45 and older, with experience in dance. Both professionals as people with amateur experience are welcome to partake in the workshops.
