Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam

During the exhibition of Notion motion by Olafur Eliasson artists/choreographers Connor Schumacher and Luis Rios Zertuche and dramaturge Maaike Schuurmans present the performative intervention To Come Between. Starting point of the intervention is an artistic research about the ideas of authorship, appropriation, and the “self” in contemporary art.

Olafur Eliasson's Notion motion returns with great reception to Rotterdam at a time that the city rejects another one of his works, The Kissing Earth. The reception for these two works can be seen as opposite, but they seem to have a lot in common.

The aesthetics in both pieces come with an air of untouchable Utopia. Utopian thinking makes us disregard the imperfect nature of our humanity by focusing on all things perfect. By making the public the center of the work a contrast appears. People cannot be controlled, predicted, and do not always behave.

"Did you know the public would react this aggressively?"

The performance intersects Notion Motion, The Kissing Earth, and the untamed public.
