Dansateliers

 

Dansateliers is de professionele danswerkplaats van Rotterdam. Zowel beginnende als meer ervaren choreografen kunnen in de studio’s onderzoek doen en een eigen handschrift ontwikkelen.

Dansateliers biedt choreografen verschillende faciliteiten en projectvormen. Zo zijn er startprojecten van twee weken waarin Dansateliers en nieuwe dansmakers de kans krijgen om elkaar te leren kennen. Bij werkplaatsprojecten, die doorgaans vijf weken in beslag nemen, is er meer ruimte voor onderzoek en voor samenwerking – niet alleen met dansers, maar ook met andere makers en kunstenaars uit verschillende disciplines.

Alle projecten worden financieel, productioneel en publicitair ondersteund door Dansateliers, zodat de choreograaf zich kan bezighouden met het onderzoek en het ontwikkelen van zijn/haar materiaal. Bovendien is er voor elk project een artistiek adviseur, die feedback en artistieke coaching biedt.

Werkplaatsprojecten worden afgesloten met een serie presentaties in de studio. Deze presentaties zijn toegankelijk voor iedereen en bieden de makers de mogelijkheid om na afloop een dialoog aan te gaan met het publiek.

Voorstellen voor een onderzoeksproject kunnen op elk moment worden ingediend. Dansateliers werkt zonder deadlines voor aanvragen. Houd er wel rekening mee dat projecten vaak lang van tevoren worden ingepland. Een gesprek tussen maker en organisatie maakt onderdeel uit van het selectieproces.

Manuela Raurich

         … each person carries feelings within himself – the sentimental body …

Manuela Raurich (Chili, 1983) studeerde aan de Opleiding Moderne Dans van de Theaterschool Amsterdam en specialiseerde zich in choreografie bij Codarts (Rotterdamse Dansacademie). Ze liep een korte stage bij de Emio Greco / PC company en was choreografieassistent van Gabrielle Staiger en Edan Gorlicki. Voor Dansateliers maakte ze een expeditie in het Urban Explorers Festival 2009. Ze werkte een tijd in het Centre Cívic la Barceloneta (Barcelona) en neemt in 2010 deel aan het DanceWEB Scholarship Programme in het kader van ImpulsTanz Festival in Wenen.

Manuela Raurich (Chile, 1983) trained at the Modern Dance Department of the Theaterschool in Amsterdam and specialized in choreography at Codarts (Rotterdamse Dansacademie). She did a small internship with the Emio Greco/ PC company en was choreographic assistant to Gabrielle Staiger and Edan Gorlicki. She worked for Dansateliers in the Urban Explorers Festival 2009 and did a residency in Centre Cívic la Barceloneta. In 2010 she will join the DanceWEB scholarship programme taking place within the ImpulsTanz festival in Vienna.

Melissa Ellberger

         … researching the way laws of gravity apply to the body …

Melissa Ellberger (Zwitserland, 1982) studeerde in 2003 af als trapeze acrobaat aan de Circus Space in Londen (Central School of Speech and Drama) en werkte vervolgens enkele jaren in moerne circus- en dansgezelschappen (o.a. Cirkus Cirkor in Zweden, ISH, Het Nationale Ballet). Ze werkte samen met o.a. Andrea Boll, André Gingras, Marco Gerris, Hiroaki Umeda en Monique Duurvoort. Sinds 2009 ontwikkelt ze zich als choreograaf met financiële hulp van de Van Den Ende Foundation. In 2009 presenteerde Dansateliers haar eerste solo onderzoeksproject: ‘Down on Earth’.

Melissa Ellberger (Switzerland, 1982) graduated in 2003 as a trapeze artist from the Circus Space in London (Central School of Speech and Drama) and worked for several years in the fields of contemporary circus and dance (a.o. Cirkus Cirkor  in Sweden, ISH, Het Nationale Ballet). She collaborated with artists such as Andrea Boll, André Gingras, Marco Gerris, Hiroaki Umeda and Monique Duurvoort. In 2009, her first solo research project ‘Down on Earth’ was presented at Dansateliers. She is supported in her development as a choreographer by the Van Den Ende Foundation.

Emanuele Soavi

         … mythological heroes in our own times …

Emanuele Soavi (voormalig danser bij Introdans) is medeoprichter en artistiek leider van het Keulse moderne danscollectief movingtheatre.de. Het gezelschap kreeg in 2006 en 2009 de Cologne Dance Prize. Soavi danste en maakte werk bij gezelschappen in Nederland, Duitsland en Italië. Hij is gastdocent op vele internationale festivals en opleidingen.

 Emanuele Soavi (former dancer with Introdans) is co-founder and director of the Cologne-based modern dance group movinghteatre.de. The company was awarded the Cologne Dance Prize in 2006 and 2009. Soavi danced and created work for companies in Holland, Germany and Italy. He is a teacher at international festivals and dance schools.

Liat Waysbort

         … Liat and The Guys …

Liat Waysbort werkt twee weken met een groepje mannelijke collega´s aan strategieën om ideeën en thema´s om te zetten in fysiek materiaal. Ieder van de deelnemers heeft een andere bewegingsstijl of vocabulaire. Ze delen hun nieuwsgierigheid om Liat´s werkwijze uit te proberen, de eigen gewoontes te bevragen, nieuwe ´tools´te ontwikkelen. Hoe komt een vrouwelijke choreograaf met een intense fysieke stijl en specifieke ideeën tot een dialoog met haar mannelijke collega’s?

In a two-week project Liat Waysbort will collaborate with a small group of male colleagues on strategies for translating ideas and themes into physical material. Each of the participants has his own vocabulary and way of moving. All of them share a curiosity about Liat’s way of working: questioning their own habits, developing new tools.

How does a female choreographer with a strong physical style and specific ideas come to a dialogue with her male colleagues?

Liat Waysbort (Israël, 1974) danste na haar dansopleiding in Tel Aviv bij het Bat-Sheva Ensemble en de Bat-Sheva Dance Company. In 2000 verhuisde ze naar Nederland en vervolgde haar opleiding aan de choreografieafdeling van Codarts (Rotterdamse Dansacademie). Ze maakte ondermeer de voorstellingen ´Memory happens now´(2006) en ´Redreaming the work´(2008) bij Dansateliers. Het productiehuis van Dansateliers ging van start met haar voorstelling ‘Reality is shaped by recalling’ (2009). In 2010 maakte ze ‘Male Version’ in het kader van Brand New #1. Naast haar werk als danser en choreograaf geeft ze les aan de Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten.

 Liat Waysbort (Israel, 1974) began her dance training in Tel Aviv. She danced with the Bat-Sheva Ensemble and the Bat-Sheva Dance Company and moved to the Netherlands in 2000. She continued her studies at he choreography department of Rotterdam Codarts. She created ao ´Memory happens now´(2006) and ´Redreaming the work´(2008) at Dansateliers. In 2009 ´Reality is shaped by recalling´ had its premiere as the start of Dansateliers as a production house. Besides working as a dancer and a choreographer, Liat teaches at the Amsterdam School for the Arts.

Annika Pannito

         … North is the place where everything can be seen. Where the outside world is reflected on windows …

Annika Pannito (Italië, 1981) kreeg haar dansopleiding in Napels en Rome, waar ze in 2002 afstudeerde aan de Accademia Nazionale di Danza. Ze danste bij Almatanz en Sistemi Dinamici Altamente Instabili. Sinds 2007 werkt ze als choreograaf aan eigen projecten. Ze was in 2008 een van de deelnemers aan Choreoroam, een samenwerkingsproject van The Place (UK), Operaestate Veneto (Italië) en Dansateliers. Zij werkte in 2010 in opdracht van Dansateliers mee aan Urban Explorers. Sinds 2010 woont en werkt ze in Rotterdam.

Douglas Bateman

         … investigating the way ‘reality’ is portrayed …

Douglas Bateman (UK) is freelance danser, choreograaf en docent. Hij danste o.a. bij Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. Bij Dansateliers werkte hij mee aan verschillende projecten als choreograaf. Sinds 2009 voert hij samen met Michael Maurissens de artistieke leiding van het MichaelDouglas Kollektiv in Keulen. Hij is docent aan de Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Keulen.

Douglas Bateman (UK) is a freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher. As a dancer he worked among others with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. He worked at Dansateliers before as choreographer. He is currently based in Cologne where he is artistic co-director of the MichaelDouglas Kollektiv and teaches at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz.

Sara Wiktorowicz

         … what is long term and what is short term when it comes to what we remember?

Sara Wiktorowicz (USA, 1972) is opgeleid in Boston en New York. Als freelance danser werkte ze met choreografen zoals Jan Fabre, Itzik Galili, Club Guy & Roni, Paul Selwyn Norton, Anouk van Dijk, Liat Waysbort en Sjoerd Vreugdenhil. Ze danste zeven jaar bij Galili Dans. In 2002 kreeg ze het Hendrik de Vries Stipendium voor jonge choreografen. Ze maakte ca. 15 werken, waarin ze dans, theater, film en locatie combineert.

Sara Wiktorowicz (USA, 1972) studied in Boston and New York. She freelanced for 11 years with choreographers such as Jan Fabre, Itzik Galili, Club Guy & Roni, Paul Selwyn Norton, Anouk van Dijk, Liat Waysbort and Sjoerd Vreugdenhil. She also joined the Galili Dance Company for seven years. In 2002, she was awarded the Hendrik de Vries Stipendium for young choreographers. She has created about 15 works combining dance, theatre, film and location.

Johnny Schoofs

         … ongerepte Dionysische mannelijkheid …

Johnny Schoofs (België) is opgeleid aan de opleiding uitvoerende dans van de Rotterdamse Dansacademie. Hij danste bij verschillende gezelschappen (Djazzex, Leine & Roebana) en werkte als freelancer met o.a. Uri Ivgi, Bruno Listopad en Neel Verdoorn. Eerder deed hij bij Dansateliers de onderzoeksprojecten ´Performing Portraits´ en ´Iron John´. Behalve performer en maker is hij ook docent, vooral in dansimprovisatie en de Feldenkrais methode.

He was a member of various dance companies (Djazzex, Leine & Roebana) and freelanced as a dancer with a.o. Uri Ivgi, Bruno Listopad and Neel Verdoorn. At Dansateliers he did research as a choreographer in the projects ´Performing Portraits´ and ´Iron John´. Next to performer and choreographer he is also a teacher, mostly dance improvisation and Feldenkrais.
